Read the crib, not the mascot
The crib is the interactable. Parents are the threat. Treat the parent like a moving camera, not like a boss you are supposed to kill. There is no published combat loop, no weapon list, and no “beat the SCP” quest in the official copy. You are a thief with a lab, not Mobile Task Force.
Walk the space once without grabbing anything. Note:
- Which cribs are occupied.
- Which way the parent faces at rest.
- The shortest path back to your lab that does not thread extra parents.
- Whether another player is already lining up the same crib. Five-player servers get crowded on obvious spawns.
If the parent is a tall pale figure, a yellow smiler, or a forest giant, the steal rule does not change. Body type is flavor until the roster has names. Your job is still: unseen grab, clean exit.
Approach
Come from behind or from a side the parent is not scanning. Strafe, do not sprint the last meters unless you already know the prompt distance. Sprint noise and camera shake make you overshoot the rail. On PC, keep interact on a finger that is not also steering. On mobile, pre-position the prompt thumb. Stop at the rail. Confirm the egg or baby is actually there. Empty cribs waste the window.
