Raise an Anomaly SCP parent monster types

Know the camera before you approach the crib.

Parent Types

Every steal in Raise an Anomaly starts with reading a parent, not the egg. The official copy says steal eggs from SCP monsters, which makes the parent the actual game mechanic. This page documents what we can confirm from official media and player reports about how each family parent behaves, where it tends to guard cribs, and what the vision cone looks like in practice.

Read parents as cameras, not monsters

The parent is a moving vision cone. It does not chase you in the combat sense; it turns, and if you are in its sight line when the grab happens, you lose the egg. Think of it as a security camera with legs. The steal is a timing puzzle: approach when the cone faces away, grab, and leave before the next sweep.

Parents do not have published patrol routes, aggro ranges, or reset distances. Player observation suggests they rotate in place more than they walk a circuit. Use the first approach to map the rest angle, then exploit the gap.

Yellow smiler parent

The yellow smiler parent matches the Level 1 baby: round, yellow, grinning. In official thumbnails it appears near the indoor lab set with the red moon window. Its vision cone sweep is relatively readable because the model is compact and the rotation is visible from distance.

Approach from behind or from a side angle. The grab prompt appears at close range; sprinting the last few studs risks overshooting. If the parent turns while you are mid-grab, you will likely drop the egg and need to wait for the reset.

Pale screamer parent

The pale screamer parent is tall and pale, matching the Age 100 hallway runner silhouette. Official art shows it in dim indoor corridors and near the bathtub set. Its height means the vision cone may be wider or taller than the smiler parent.

Players report this parent being more visually intimidating in five-player servers because the model fills more of the screen when you are lining up the crib. If that affects your timing, practice on smiler cribs first to build the habit before switching.

Forest grin parent

The forest grin parent appears in outdoor or tree-adjacent settings in official media, matching the Day 100 giant atmosphere. We do not have confirmed indoor versus outdoor split for parent types; the game may place any parent near any crib.

Approach as with other parents: behind or from the side, watch the head turn, grab during the gap, extract to your lab. The forest theme in the art may indicate a distinct biome or area, but this is unconfirmed.

Crib humanoid parent

The crib humanoid in the yellow polo appears in official art as both a parent figure near the pink mattress and as a potential steal target. If you see a bald figure in a yellow polo near a crib, it may be stealing-from-able rather than just decorative.

This requires player verification. Treat it as a potential fourth family until confirmed. If it behaves like other parents, apply the same timing rules.

Universal steal tips

  • Walk the map once before grabbing anything. Map the parent angles, not just the egg locations.
  • Strafe into range, do not sprint. Sprint noise is unconfirmed but players report it affecting parent awareness.
  • Stop at the rail and confirm the egg is there. Empty cribs waste the window.
  • As soon as the egg is in your hands, turn toward your exit path. Do not admire the model.
  • If you drop the egg, back off and wait for the parent to reset rather than spam-grabbing.

Five-player server dynamics

Servers hold five players. If another player is already approaching a crib, do not crowd the same parent — the vision cones will overlap and both extracts may fail. Rotate to another crib or parent instead of competing.

If the server feels empty of parents, try server hopping once. Respawn timing is unpublished, but a fresh server may have fresh cribs.

What we still do not know

  • Whether each parent type has a distinct aggro distance or speed.
  • Whether parents have a call-out or alert animation before turning.
  • Whether the crib humanoid is a confirmed steal target or just a visual.
  • Whether forest-themed parents spawn in a specific biome.

Track updates when the developers publish behavior notes. Player reports on secret anomalies may also surface parent type differences we can add here.

Until then, treat every parent as the same timing puzzle: watch the face, time the gap, grab, extract.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for stealing eggs, hatching, and raising anomalies.

How do I know which parent guards which crib?

Official media shows smiler and screamer parents near matching themed cribs, but the game may mix placements. Walk the map to learn.

Can I steal from the crib humanoid in the yellow polo?

Unconfirmed. It appears in official art as a parent figure. Treat it as a potential steal target and report findings.

Do parents chase you if you grab an egg?

The official loop is steal and extract, not combat. If a parent turns during grab, you lose the egg. There is no confirmed chase mechanic.

Are there secret parent types?

Discovery is the endgame. If a parent model looks different from the three confirmed families, it may be a secret. Steal that egg and log the result.
